I’m not sure where the “easy as apple pie” phrase originated or what it was referring to; but this recipe is just that – easy as pie to make.  That is; when you follow the directions.  I had everything ready to make this recipe, using store-bought biscuits in the can, and then it all went wrong – the first time I made them.  They were still very yummy to eat but presentation-wise, it was not a pretty sight.  I went wrong with the melting the butter part – I assumed I could melt the butter in the skillet as I did with these delicious Blueberry Skillet Biscuits.  Ha! No.

So the second attempt, I made sure I didn’t assume anything! Then, as the phrase goes, it was “easy as pie” to make these Skillet Apple Pie Biscuits.  I choose to use the canned biscuits because I had them and well, why not.  You most certainly can make your own from-scratch biscuits and use those in the recipe.

I love the fact this recipe can be made in a skillet, even though I do not own a cast iron one. My 10-inch Calphalon oven-safe skillet worked wonderfully though.  You could also use a 9-inch cake pan to make these.  Whatever vessel you choose to bake this dessert in, the result will be the same, yummy!  Oh, and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on to of the warm biscuits for an even more delicious taste.
