Equipment

  • shallow bowl, wide enough for a slice of bread
  • whisk
  • griddle or large skillet

Ingredients

  • 2 - 3 tablespoons butter
  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, more as needed
  • warm maple syrup

Instructions

  • Heat a square griddle or regular skillet over medium heat.
  • In a shallow bowl that is wide enough to hold a slice of bread, add eggs, milk, and cinnamon and whisk until completely combined. It’s okay if the cinnamon isn’t totally incorporated into the mixture. This just means more cinnamon goodness.
  • Melt one tablespoon of butter on the hot skillet or griddle.
  • Dip each side of the bread slices into the egg mixture and add to the griddle or skillet. My husband will add more cinnamon to the batter halfway through making the French toast. Note: Only dip the bread into the egg mixture long enough to coat. The longer the bread sits in the egg mixture the longer it will take to cook, and you risk the center not getting cooked all the way.
  • Cook for 3-5 minutes, until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side for 2-3 minutes. You want to be sure the toast is cooked through. No one likes soggy French toast. Repeat with more slices of bread as needed, using more butter on the griddle if the bread starts to stick
  • Serve with additional butter, maple syrup, and fresh sliced strawberries, if desired.
