Hansel and Gretel Gingerbread Latte
Skip the coffee house and make your own gingerbread latte at home. This Hansel and Gretel Gingerbread Latte uses a homemade gingerbread spice syrup that is easy to make and adds the perfect amount of spices to your coffee drinks.
Servings: 2 lattes
For the Gingerbread Syrup:
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- 2 tsp vanilla
For the latte:
- 2 cups (6 oz each) strongly brewed coffee
- 1 cup milk, steamed
- whipped cream, optional
For the Gingerbread Syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine the water, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves. Give it a stir. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally so the sugar dissolves.
Once it comes to a boil, lower heat slightly and simmer until the syrup has thickened. This will take about 15-20 minutes. Be sure to stir the syrup occasionally.
Once the syrup has thickened, remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Let cool and pour into a glass jar. Store in refrigerator up to two weeks.
To use in lattes, use about 3/4 ounce per 6 oz of hot coffee.
To make latte:
Pour coffee into two mugs, add 3/4 ounce of gingerbread syrup into each mug. Stir.
Add steamed milk (about 1/2 cup per mug) and top with whipped cream, if desired.
