Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup dry powdered milk
  • 2 teaspoons salt (or to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

To Make the Gravy Mix:

  • This mix will make 12.7 ounces of dry mix and will yield about 13 cups of gravy.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, dry milk, salt, and black pepper, and mix all ingredients well.
  • Store the finished dry mixture in a mason jar, or other sealed, airtight container, in the pantry, for up to 6 months.

Using the Mix to Make Gravy:

  • To make 1 cup of gravy, melt the 2 Tablespoons of butter (or use bacon grease) in a small skillet over medium heat.
Add 2 Tablespoons of the gravy mix and constantly stir until it fully absorbs the melted fat, forming a roux. Continue cooking and stirring for about 1 minute.
  • Slowly whisk in about one-third of the 1 cup of warm water. Pause to combine, then slowly add the remaining water while continually whisking.
  • Continue stirring constantly for about 3 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened to your preference (it should lightly coat the back of a spoon). Remove from heat immediately. Serve the gravy right away or store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Do not freeze
