Kiwano and Blood Orange Smoothies

This Kiwano Melon and Blood Orange Smoothie is filled with fruits and will be a delicious start to your day or a great pick-me-up drink in the afternoon.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 blood oranges, juiced
  • 1 kiwano melon, using the seeds and fruit from inside the melon
  • 1 frozen banana, sliced
  • 4 whole frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk yogurt (or your favorite plain yogurt)

Instructions

  • This smoothie is super simple to make and the recipe makes enough for one or two servings. The first thing you would do is to juice the blood oranges into your blender.
  • Then cut your kiwano melon in half and scoop out the flesh and seeds into the blender. Continue adding the rest of the ingredients to the blender.  Blend until smooth and taste to see if you need to add a bit of sweetener, but if you do, simply add a tablespoon of raw honey and blend again.
  • If your smoothie is too thick, you can blend in a couple of ice cubes.
  • I used the kiwano melon as my drinking "glass" but cutting off the top of one and scooping out all of the fruit and seeds (I used this to make more smoothies). I dried the inside a little with a paper towel and then poured my smoothie in the fruit shell. If your melon doesn't stand up, use a knife to slice off a thin piece of the bottom. Garnish with a straw and slice of blood orange.
