- 1 9x13 yellow cake, baked according to box directions
- 2 16 ounce cans vanilla frosting
- 8 ounce container of whipped topping, thawed
- 1 pound fresh strawberries (frozen is not recommended)
- ⅔ cup fresh blueberries (frozen not recommended)
Prepare the strawberries by removing the stems and cutting each berry in half.
In a large bowl, beat the vanilla frosting on high speed for 1 to 2 minutes until fluffy. Add the whipped topping and mix on low until combined.
Spread about half of the frosting mixture evenly over the cake. Refrigerate the cake and remaining frosting for 1 hour.
Arrange the strawberry halves in rows across the cake to create the red stripes. Fill the upper left corner with blueberries to create the flag field.
Transfer the remaining frosting to piping bags fitted with large and small star tips. Pipe frosting stars between the strawberry rows and in the spaces between the blueberries. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
