I love the classic Christmas show, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”! I know you can buy the show on DVD and watch it anytime, but there is something so warm and fuzzy about watching it just at Christmas. It brings the kid out of me, and I say all the lines along with the characters.  My kids would watch it when they were young and they must have missed out on that gene from me to want to watch as adults.  Wait till they have kids! Ha!

This the fourth day of #ChristmasSweetsWeek, and another of our fantastic sponsors is Sweets and Treats Boutique sent sprinkles for me to try out.  I was giddy when I saw the name of the sprinkles I have, “Mean One“.  I mean it’s perfect for this Christmas Grinch Bark.  The sprinkles give so many ideas like adding them to a batch of Grinch Popcorn to snack on while watching Christmas shows.

Candy bark is super simple to make, it’s great for gift-giving, and you can make it for nearly any special occasion.  I grabbed the necessary items from the pantry along with the Mean One sprinkles and set out to create this yummy sweet candy treat.  I also added a little bit of peppermint extract to the melted candy to give it even more holiday taste.  You can leave it out, or add other flavorings instead.

Melting the candy wafers in the microwave was easy.  Once it’s melted, add the peppermint extract – I only added about a teaspoon to the green and nothing to the white.  You can add the flavorings to both, it’s totally up to you and how much you like peppermint.  Then I lined a tray with parchment paper and spread the melted green candy on the tray in an even layer.  Using a spoon, drop dollops of the melted white on top of the green, then take a wooden skewer and swirl the white into the green.  Easy!

Working quickly, using the Mean One sprinkles I topped the melted candy with them, and then added just a few of the larger red candy hearts. Put the tray in the refrigerator to chill for about 2 hours before cutting or breaking into pieces.

Ingredients

  • 1 12 oz pkg of green candy melts
  • 6 oz white candy melts half of the 12 oz bag
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • Mean One sprinkles
  • large red candy hearts

Instructions

  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Melt the green candy melts using the instructions on the back of the package.
  • Add the peppermint extract to the melted green candy, stir to combine.
  • Melt the white candy melts using the instructions on the back of the package.
  • Spread the green melted candy on the parchment paper lined tray. Make sure it's spread in an even layer. I used a small tray and I didn't spread the melted candy to the edges of the pan, just about half the pan.
  • Then, using a spoon drop dollops of the white on the green.
  • Using a wooden skewer, swirl the white into the green. Don't mix the two completely, you want a swirl pattern.
  • Working quickly, top with sprinkles and large red candy hearts.
  • Chill in refrigerator for two hours before cutting or breaking the candy into pieces.
  • Can be stored at room temperature once it has hardened.
