Air Fryer Chocolate Glazed Apple Hand Pies
Chocolate Glazed Apple Hand Pies made in the air fryer and filled with a sweet homemade apple pie filling. Drizzling chocolate over the hand pies takes them to a whole new level of goodness. A quick and easy dessert for any night of the week.
I am all for this delicious Air Fryer Chocolate Glazed Apple Hand Pie and not just because it’s drizzled with chocolate. It’s so easy to make mini apple pies when you use refrigerated pie crust dough. Easy Peasy! The best part is that they are air-fried – the crust comes out crispy, flaky, and tender on the inside. The apple pie filling comes together quickly on the stovetop and is easy to make.
We make these hand pies often for a quick dessert and they sure don’t disappoint and neither do these Air Fryer Blackberry Hand Pies.

Air Fryer Chocolate Glazed Apple Hand Pies
My Air Fryer Chocolate Glazed Apple Hand Pies uses some of my favorite ingredients and products. I used Envy apples and vanilla bean paste from Taylor & Colledge in the apple filling. I drizzled my pies with milk chocolate from Divine Chocolate. I love this apple corer and used them in prepping the apples.
Besides having quality products and ingredients, I love that the air fryer creates a “fried” look and taste to these apple hand pies without having to deep fry anything or have the greasy mess to clean up. That is such a time saver to me.
Whether you choose to glaze these air fryer apple pies with chocolate or not, they are delicious either way. I also love to use dark chocolate, white chocolate, and even a simple powdered sugar glaze over these fruit hand pies.
Air fryer apple hand pies are a delicious portable treat that are held in the palm of your hand making them a perfect snack or dessert. Who can resist warm apple pie in a handheld form? Not me.
How do you store apple hand pies?
Store the cooled apple hand pies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can freeze the cooled hand pies in an airtight container for up to a month.
How do you reheat the hand pies?
When you’re ready to eat the refrigerated or frozen hand pies, allow the pies to thaw or come to room temperature. Then reheat in the air fry at 300 degrees for 5 to 7 minutes, until the filling has heated through.
Equipment
- Air Fryer
- cutting board
- apple corer
- knife
- skillet
Ingredients
- 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated pie crust
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups peeled and diced – small dices – (about 2 large apples)
- 1/2 teaspoon Taylor & Colledge Organic Vanilla Bean Paste (vanilla extract works great, too)
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 egg white plus 2 teaspoons water
For the chocolate glaze:
- 2 – 3 ounces of Divine Chocolate ( I used the Milk Chocolate flavor) Or about 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips
Steps to Make Chocolate Glazed Apple Hand Pies
Step 1
As usual, I like to ensure I have all the ingredients for each recipe before I start baking or cooking. It helps to make sure you have everything before you get too far in the recipe and also it’s handy to have the ingredients right there in front of you.
Important to note: Be sure to let the pie crust dough come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before using.
Step 2
Dice your apples on the small side since you are only using one tablespoon of filling in each hand pie, you want to get the most apples you can in the pies. I used Envy apples but I have also used Honeycrsip, Fuji, and Gala types.
Step 3
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add apples, vanilla, nutmeg, brown sugar and cinnamon. Give it a good stir and cook about 5-10 minutes, until apples are tender, stirring occasionally. Be sure to cook your apples until they are tender, they will only be in the air fryer for a short time so the apples need to be done.
Step 4
Once your apple filling is cooked, start preparing the pie crusts for the filling. Unroll each pie crust using a 4-inch biscuit cutter (the rim of a 4-inch glass works well, too) and cut out circles. You may need to reroll the scraps using a rolling pin to get enough pie crust circles for all of the filling.
Step 5
Then, using a one-tablespoon cookie scoop or measuring spoon, place an apple pie filling in the center of each circle.
Step 6
Fold the dough over and crimp to seal using your fingers or the tines of a fork. In a small bowl, mix the egg and water together. Brush each with a little egg wash.
Step 7
There is no need to preheat the air fryer for this recipe. Simply spray the air fryer basket with non-stick spray and place your hand pies in without crowding them. I can fit three in mine with the pies not touching each other. Air fry them at 350 degrees for about 9-11 minutes, depending on your air fryer. Remove to wire rack to cool a bit before glazing.
Alternatively, you can bake the hand pies in the oven if you don’t have an air fryer. Bake them in a 425-degree oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 8
To make the glaze, I used a bar of good quality chocolate, like Divine Chocolate milk chocolate bar (not sponsored), melting it in the microwave, and then pouring it into a squeeze bottle to drizzle over the hand pies. The chocolate sets pretty quickly and then you can enjoy the hand pies!
Tips, Tricks, and FAQs
- Be sure your apple pieces are diced small enough and cook until tender.
- You can use homemade pie crust or even puff pastry if you wish.
- If you’re using homemade or canned apple pie filling, just be sure you dice up those apples smaller and not too much of the liquid in the pies or the pies can become soggy.
- Serve as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Caramel sauce is also a great drizzle idea.
- Try making raspberry or blueberry hand pies using fruit pie filling.
