Smoothies are my thing lately and I have to say, I sure wish I would have made them more often for the girls when they were younger. I mean, it’s perfect breakfast drink or afternoon treat. As the girls got older, they often took their breakfast “on-the-go”, and smoothies would have been so much better than a toaster pastry or a cereal bar.
Lately, this Chunky Monkey Smoothie has been my drink of choice when the sweets are craving. Can’t go wrong with chocolate in a smoothie! This one has peanut butter, banana, dark chocolate, and almond milk. Healthier ingredients so you can feel better about drinking this smoothie.
It would make a great breakfast treat for the kids to celebrate the first day of school or the end of the first week!
Four ingredients! That’s it!
Super easy to blend up in this cute mini blender from Hamilton Beach! I think the best part of this blender is that I can make smoothies for one in a flash. If you’ve got more than one child who wants smoothies and they want different ingredients, this blender is great for that. a quick rinse and you’re on the next flavored smoothie. You don’t have to lug out the big blender!
Clean up is a breeze!
Tips for Making Chunky Monkey Smoothies:
Freezing the bananas is highly recommended and is so easy to do. If you freeze them whole be sure peel them first. I like to slice the bananas and lay them out on a sheet tray that is lined with wax paper. Flash freeze till frozen, then toss them all in a freezer bag.
I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk but feel free to use another milk product.
The peanut butter I love to use is a natural one – just peanuts no extra stuff.
Frozen ripe bananas are best to use.
Not a fan of dark chocolate? Use semi-sweet, milk chocolate, or your favorite chocolate chips.
This really is a simple recipe with the four ingredients. Just add them to the blender and turn it on. Blend till smooth.
Bonus tip: in the mood for ice cream? simply blend frozen bananas in the blender and you’ve got a frozen banana ice cream treat.
