3 Ingredient Slow Cooker Cherry Cobbler
This 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Cherry Cobbler is a “dump and go” dessert, meaning you layer the ingredients into your slow cooker and turn it on. If you need an effortless sweet treat, this is the recipe for you. It’s ready to serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in just two hours. This easy dessert recipe works for any season, feeds a crowd, and fits right in at both casual dinners and holiday gatherings.

This slow cooker cherry cobbler was the very first dessert I made in the crock pot. I really should have done so long before this as it’s so easy! It helps that it’s a hands-off recipe with only 3 ingredients, and ready in a couple of hours. My Crockpot Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake is just as easy, and so is this 3 Ingredient Slow Cooker Peach Cobbler. All of these are made even better topped with this simple No Churn Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
3 Ingredient Slow Cooker Cherry Cobbler
This 3-ingredient slow cooker cherry cobbler is one of the best slow cooker dessert recipes that I have ever made. If you’ve made dump cakes, this is just the same except you are baking it in your crock pot. You literally will be “dumping” the ingredients into the slow cooker, placing the lid on, and letting it do its thing.
Cherry pie filling brings sweetness and tartness, while the yellow cake mix creates a buttery, crumbly topping. You don’t need to stir, and there’s no need to prep anything in advance. The butter melts into the dry mix, creating a tender, almost cookie-like topping that holds up well against the warm fruit underneath. Waiting for it to be done is the hardest part!

Timesaving Tips and Variations
This recipe comes together quickly, but there are a few extra shortcuts and swaps you can try to make it even easier. You can also adjust the ingredients slightly to suit your tastes or what you have on hand.
- Use Slow Cooker Liners – For super quick cleanup, line your slow cooker before adding ingredients.
- Try a different cake mix: A white cake mix, a chocolate cake mix, or a spice cake mix, all work well and can add a different flavor twist.
- Add almond extract: A small splash stirred into the pie filling gives it a richer, bakery-style taste.
- Use another fruit filling: Apple, blueberry, or peach pie filling can be substituted if you prefer.
These small adjustments don’t change the ease of the recipe, but they do give you flexibility. Keep the base formula the same, and you’ll still get reliable, tasty results every time, no matter the flavor of fruit or cake mix you use.

Perfect recipe there Lisa, easy peasy and delicious. I especially like that you can have all the ingredients on hand and that it only takes 2 hours so can be made anytime you get a hankering for a fruity dessert.
We may or may have made this with other fruit several times since this the first time
Don’t forget the ice cream too!
So clever Lisa to use cake mix!! I need to try this!
I love how this recipe only requires 3 ingredients! Sounds so delicious and even better since it’s made in the crock pot!! Thank you for this- I cannot wait to try this.
I’ve made apple dump cake before and we loved it. I need to try it in the crockpot, cherry or apple. I like all flavors of dessert. It’s the right thing to do!
Amazing! I bet nothing can be as simple and easy as this recipe! I would love to have many servings of this!
I had no idea this was possible in the slow cooker, but it is delicious! I love the cakey buttery topping with the cherries!
Add some crushed pineapple with the cherries and I’m all in!
Jerry, that sounds delicious!
what setting for cooker ???
On high for two hours
Can this recipe be cooked on slow? My slow cooker doesn’t have a high setting. Thank you in advance.
I’ve never cooked it on slow but I don’t see why not. It would take a bit longer to bake. I would check it after two hours to see how much more time you may need
Just curious; what happens if you mix melted butter to the cake mix then spread it across the top of the cherries? I see these type of recipes all the time; but there are always areas where the butter didn’t melt that I imagine would be just powder. Any idea on the importance? Thanks!
Shelly, Using the slow cooker, I didn’t have any of the powder areas you mention. I would say experiment! You could also cut the butter into smaller pieces to cover more area.
Does it matter what size slow cooker? I’ve tried recipes where my slow cooker was too shallow and the food came out over cooked and recipes where it was too deep and the food was not cooked at all.
I have only used a 6 quart oval slow cooker when I made this.
Can you tell me what size slow cooker to use for this recipe?
I used a 6 quart oval slow cooker
I’m a big cobbler fan, but not a cherry fan. Could other fruits be used?
Yes, it’s great with apple, blueberry, and more! Use whatever fruit you wish.
Wow you can’t beat this for simple. I think my sister is going to love it and so much easier than cherry pie. Thanks
Yes! Easy peasy! and Yummy!
This turned put so good, my family loves it
Thank you for trying the recipe and I’m so happy you and your family loved it!
Can we put this in the oven instead of a slow cooker? Please reply by email.
Replied via email!
I also want to know if this can be made in the oven as I do not have a slow cooker
Yes, you can. Use an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch pan. Add the cherry pie filling to the bottom of the pan, then the spread the cake mix over top. Then top with the slices of butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes or until golden brown.
Can’t wait to try this using chocolate cake mix as I think that would taste great with the cherries with vanilla ice cream!
That sounds wonderful!
If doubling recipe- do you have to increase slow cooker time?
I’m so sorry I didn’t get back to you in a timely fashion! I’ve doubled it and only add a few extra minutes to the cooking time. Just check it at the 90 minute mark to see if it will be good to go at two hours or if you need more time.
I make a dump cake this exact way, only I add pineapple to that and do it in the oven. Great recipe
Sounds amazing! Would like to try it but…how much is a stick of butter? Would it be 1/2 cup or 1 cup?
One stick of butter is 1/2 cup of butter.
Can I use salted butter in this cobbler recipe?
I never have unsalted butter on hand.
Hi Gayle, yes you can!
I normally bake my cobbler’s in the oven so will give it a try in my 6 qt. crock pot / slow cooker.
When making a cherry cobbler I normally add 1 capful of Pure Almond extract into the Cherry pie filling; mixed in well, along with 1 can of well drained pineapple and usually use a chocolate cake mix when using cherry pie filling.
The additions/changes you do sounds yummy!
