Vanilla Bean Funfetti Milkshake
The last time I had a shake was too long ago and this easy vanilla milkshake recipe is going to be a wonderful sweet treat this summer. I love sprinkles and ice cream together so with simple ingredients (6 to be exact) I can make this creamy shake all summer long.
Next time you need a special dessert, make one of these for a fun birthday milkshake, movie night treat, or just because you crave a shake with sprinkles and fun toppings.
You do want to use a blender to make the homemade funfetti shakes to get a thick creamy texture. If your blender has a removable blade like mine does, you will want to remove it before adding the sprinkles so they don’t get crushed and turn the ice cream a weird color. Mind you, it will still be yummy to drink, just an odd color. Then, you can use a spatula to mix in all those sprinkles. *If your blender blade does not come out, simply use a spatula to hand mix in the sprinkles as best as you can.
Of course, after making these delicious milkshakes I wanted to make chocolate milkshakes, too. Heck, I want to make all the flavors! This is my new favorite treat. It is even better than this shake! If you’re looking for a healthier shake, I recommend this Blueberry Shake.
Can I use different flavors of ice cream?
Yes, you can use any flavor of ice cream you like. My all-time favorite is mint chocolate chip but I love a good vanilla shake, too.
How do you thicken a homemade milkshake?
The easiest and fastest way is to add more ice cream to thicken a milkshake.
How do you thin out a thick milkshake?
To make a thick milkshake a thinner consistency, add a little bit of milk, a little at a time until it’s perfect for you.
How do I get the sprinkles to stick to the glass?
Use a spatula to spread a thin layer of the frosting on the edge of the glass. Then roll the glass in the sprinkles and they will stick easily. Then you can lick and eat the sprinkles as you sip on your milkshake.
Equipment
- blender
- spatula
- ice cream scoop
- glasses or mason jars
- small wooden skewers
Ingredients
- a 48-ounce carton of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- 6 – 8 tablespoons whole milk (you can use any milk you prefer, even non-dairy milk)
- 1 cup Hershey Syrup or this hot fudge syrup
- 2 cups Whipped Cream
- 8 Marshmallows (I like these strawberry ones)
- 16 ounces Vanilla Frosting
- 9 ounces Funfetti Sprinkles
How to Make Vanilla Bean Funfetti Milkshakes
Step 1
In a blender add in your tub of ice cream. Blend the ice cream until it’s smooth.
Step 2
Once the ice cream has a smooth consistency, add in 6-8 tablespoons of milk. Blend the milk into the ice cream until incorporated. I like a thicker milkshake. If you prefer a runnier milkshake add a bit more milk.
Step 3
If you are using a Ninja blender like I have, remove the blade and add in your sprinkles. I used about 3/4 of a 9-ounce bottle of sprinkles for this recipe. Fold the sprinkles in with a spoon or spatula.
Step 4
Grab the glasses that you are using and prepare the tops of them. Using a spatula, spread a THIN layer of frosting around the outside rim of the glasses. Using a flat plate dip your glass in the sprinkles until all the icing is covered.
Step 5
Fill your glass until nearly full. You’ll want to keep some room in the cup for the whipped cream. Top your funfetti milkshake with canned whipped cream or the whipped cream of your choice.
Step 6
Drizzle the top of the whipped cream with chocolate syrup.
Step 7
Using a small wooden skewer place the marshmallows on the skewer, using as many as you want. Then add your straw and you are ready to enjoy your homemade easy funfetti milkshake!
Tips, Tricks, and FAQs
- To mix in the sprinkles use a spatula, not the blender or your ice cream will turn a not so pretty color.
- Use any sprinkles you like. I love these pretty ones.
- Want more vanilla flavor? Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the ice cream in blender.
- Not a vanilla ice cream fan? No problem, use your favorite flavor. Chocolate, cookie dough, or strawberry are all delicious.
- By using a THIN layer of the frosting on the outside of the milkshake glass, your sprinkles will stay put and will not slide down with the weight of the frosting.
- Milkshake too thick? Add more milk. Too thin? Add more ice cream.
- You can freeze the shakes and when ready to enjoy, allow to sit out for a bit to thaw before drinking.
