3 Ingredient Hot Fudge Sauce

3 Ingredient Hot Fudge Sauce, just like my Homemade Caramel Sauce, is one of those recipes that makes dessert feel a little extra without adding any extra work. It’s rich, smooth, and exactly what you want when the chocolate craving hits. Made with simple ingredients, comes together in just 5 minutes, and tastes way better than anything from a jar.

This easy hot fudge drizzle instantly makes dessert better. Spoon it over ice cream or set it out with other ice cream toppings for an easy, build-your-own treat. It’s warm, smooth, and always a good idea.

I am a sucker for ice cream sundaes. This really is the best 3-ingredient hot fudge sauce I have ever had. I could seriously eat it with a spoon! It’s the perfect summer dessert topping when you drizzle it over a big scoop of my No Churn Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. The best part is that this recipe is ready in just 5 minutes.

Admittedly, that could also be a bad thing. But I’m not thinking that way – I don’t need that kind of negativity in my life, just more of this fudgy deliciousness.

While warm topping is perfectly yummy poured over vanilla ice cream, it’s also sinfully good over this Cookie Jar Ice Cream, which you can make at home, too. Use this sauce when you make a Grasshopper Poke Cake, too.

Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce

Sometimes I can’t even believe this qualifies as a recipe because it’s just so easy to throw together. I mean three ingredients, a cooking pot, a whisk, and a jar. That’s it. The hardest part of this whole process is remembering to buy ice cream to use it on.

By using basic pantry staples like semi-sweet chocolate chips and creamy sweetened condensed milk, you get a foolproof, velvety texture every single time. Adding a little butter gives a gorgeous, glossy finish and makes it extra rich, so it thickens up perfectly the second it hits a cold scoop of ice cream.

It’s a total budget-friendly win compared to those pricey jars at the store, and you know exactly what’s going into it. This is the kind of recipe you’ll want to keep tucked away for whenever you need a quick chocolate fix. It’s so fast to pull together that you can have a warm, decadent topping ready to pour before you even finish scooping the ice cream into bowls.

Timesaving Tips and Variations

This recipe for hot fudge sauce is already quick, but a few small tweaks can make it even easier or help you switch things up based on what you have available.

  • You can swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips for dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips to easily adjust the sweetness level.
  • Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks and reheat it in the microwave for 30 seconds whenever you need a quick topping.
  • Add a pinch of sea salt or a splash of vanilla extract after melting the ingredients to add a layer of complexity to the flavor profile.
  • Serve over ice cream, brownies, pancakes, waffles, and more. Besides ice cream, my favorite way to use this is as a dip for a Rainbow Fruit Charcuterie Board.
  • It’s not recommended to make this chocolate sauce in the microwave, but you can reheat it in there.

A jar on hand means instant dessert magic for surprise guests or just for you at midnight. Grab a spoon and let the chocolate fun begin.

Best Desserts to Serve with Hot Fudge Sauce

This homemade fudge sauce pairs with so many desserts, making it incredibly versatile. Whether you’re going classic or a little creative, it adds that rich chocolate finish that everyone loves.

No matter how you serve it, it brings everything together with a smooth, chocolatey finish. It’s an easy way to elevate even the simplest treats. Keep a batch ready for whenever dessert calls.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between hot fudge and chocolate syrup?

The difference between the two is the texture. Chocolate syrup is thinner and uses sugar or corn syrup and water, while hot fudge relies on butter and heavy cream (or, in this case, sweetened condensed milk).

How long does homemade fudge sauce last?

Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container. It will keep for about two weeks. To reheat, microwave for about 30 seconds and stir. If not warm enough, heat again in 15-second increments.

Can I freeze homemade hot fudge sauce?

Yes, you can freeze hot fudge topping for up to 2 months. Pour it into a sturdy jar and seal it tightly before freezing. Allow it to thaw completely before use.

Our favorite sauce to drizzle on top of icecream! I have all the ingredients and going to make as I started to crave for a bowl of ice cream with fudge sauce reading this post! Yummy and addictive sauce!

So easy, smooth and thick, but easy to pour over ice cream. Sweetened condensed milk is very sweet for my taste so I used very dark chocolate. I also added a tsp of espresso because I love the coffee-chocolate flavor combo. The recipe makes a lot. If you can find a smaller tin of sweetened condensed milk, it is worth it to reduce the recipe.
