I just love these super easy Soft Sprinkle Sugar Cookies and make them several times a year for various holidays since coming across the recipe from a wonderful friend.  She brought some to a study group a couple of years ago and they were a perfect snack while we were studying for our big final.  Of course, we teased her by saying she didn’t bring nearly enough of them.

Easy Recipe

The recipe couldn’t be simpler – mix up the dough, add in some sprinkles and chill the dough for a bit.  Then roll the chilled dough into balls and give them a sprinkle bath and bake!  I added a large red candy heart to the tops of each cookie dough ball giving them even more yumminess.

Cookies are a great way to spread love to those who are close to your heart – near or far.  I used to mail cookie care packages to my girls when they were in college; these Soft Sprinkle Sugar Cookies would have been perfect for that if I had the recipe back then.

Cookies are also something that I love to bake for special reasons such as this #FoodBloggerLove Valentine’s Event to help raise awareness and donations for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.  I am thrilled to be participating in this event and want to share how you can help us reach our goal and donate to a worthy cause.

We are doing this event because we want to make a difference in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Did you know that cancer is the #1 cause of death of children by disease in the U.S.? There are 40,000 U.S. children actively battling cancer right now. With less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget going to all childhood cancer combined, I knew it was important for me to get involved.

Help us make a difference by donating to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer! Our goal is to raise at least $3000. Because these three companies: Dixie Crystals, Land O’Lakes and Mediavine have each pledged to match our donations raised through this campaign up to $3000!!!

Want to Donate?

Currently, we have raised: $1,515 ALMOST half way towards our $3000 goal, will you help us with a donation today? Every little bit helps!

Donate here. Then help us to spread the word – Please share using our hashtag #helpingcookies when posting on your social media. Thank you!

  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/4 cup 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups sprinkles nonpareils, divided
  • large red candy hearts

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl combine flour, corn starch, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In bowl of stand mixer fitted or a large bowl using hand mixer, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in eggs and vanilla and blend till combined until light and fluffy, scraping the bowl sides as needed.
  • Add the flour mixture gradually and mix together on low/medium speed until combined.
  • By hand, add in 1/2 cup of sprinkles and gently fold into dough.
  • Refrigerate dough for two hours before baking.
  • When dough is done chilling, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Pour the remaining 1 cup of sprinkles into a medium bowl, and roll tablespoon sized balls of dough into the sprinkles.
  • Place the cookies onto prepared baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.
  • Gently press a large red candy heart in the center of the dough ball.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes. The cookies will not turn golden brown, and will still look a little wet when they come out of the oven. This is normal.
  • Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 3-5 minutes before moving to a wire rack to cool completely.
