Frozen Strawberry Margarita Mocktail
A frozen virgin strawberry margarita is a delicious way to cool down on a hot summer day. This margarita mocktail has only five ingredients and uses a simple syrup to sweeten it.
I’m already thinking about the warmer weather and sipping this Frozen Strawberry Margarita Mocktail or a Blood Orange Strawberry Papaya Daiquiri. If you ask me, summer fruit always makes the best drinks and smoothies. Freezing the in-season fresh fruit makes it so easy to enjoy this frozen drink anytime I want, even in the middle of winter.
This recipe for virgin strawberry margaritas is one of those recipes where freezing fresh strawberries is perfect. When the fruit is in season, we head to the strawberry patches to pick our own or buy the ones already picked and waiting. I’m not sure how many we eat along the way, but it’s always a good time.

Frozen Strawberry Margarita Mocktail
Using simple ingredients like frozen strawberries, and fresh citrus this drink is easy to make and you’ll be making this mocktail over and over again. All you need is a blender and the ingredients. I do like to make a simple syrup to add a bit more sweetness to the drink, especially if the strawberries aren’t all sweet. This is such a delicious and refreshing drink! The simple syrup is optional but is also easy to make. You can even add it to iced tea in place of sugar or even lemonade.
I have added the directions for both the virgin strawberry margarita mocktail and with alcohol if you prefer that.
Easy tip: To flash-freeze strawberries – rinse and dry the fruit. Slice off the tops, and cut in half the larger strawberries. Place fruit on a parchment paper ( or wax paper) line tray and place in the freezer until the fruit is frozen. Then store strawberries in a freezer-safe container until needed.

Non-alcoholic version:
- 1 16-ounce bag of frozen strawberries
- ⅓ cup fresh orange juice (1 – 2 large oranges)
- ⅓ cup fresh lime juice (3 large limes)
- ⅓ cup water
- 1 – 2 tablespoons simple syrup * (optional)
- ice, optional
- lime slices and fresh strawberries for garnish, optional
Alcoholic version:
- 1 16-ounce bag of frozen strawberries
- ¼ cup fresh lime juice (2 large limes)
- 4 ounces white tequila
- 2 ounces orange-flavored liqueur
Steps to Make Strawberry Margarita Mocktails
Step 1
To make the simple syrup: dissolve 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool. Store in refrigerator for up to a week.
Step 2
Place half the frozen strawberries into a high-powered blender. Add lime juice, orange juice, and water. Cover and blend on the highest setting until smooth, approximately 1-2 minutes.
Step 3
Remove the vent cap on the blender lid and add the remaining frozen strawberries one at a time while the blender is still running. Continue blending until all strawberries have been added and the mixture is completely smooth.
Step 4
Taste, and if you would like the drinks a little sweeter, add 1 – 2 tablespoons of the cooled simple syrup. Blend once again to mix. For thicker margaritas, add some ice until the desired consistency is reached. For a thinner consistency, add a little water.
Step 5
Pour into serving glasses and garnish with lime slices and/or fresh strawberries right before serving. The method to make this drink with alcohol is in the recipe direction notes.
Tips, Tricks, and FAQs
- Try replacing the strawberries with another berry you like.
- If you use fresh berries, you may need to add more ice to get a thicker consistency.
- Serve in margarita glasses or mason jars.
- If you want a sugared rim: use empty glasses and rim them by taking the lime wedge and running the flesh over the top and a bit of the sides of the rim of the glass. Dip lime juice rims in red cocktail sugar, or coarse sugar.
- You can do the same with salt, omitting the sugar and using margarita salt on the rim.

I sub’d sparkling water for plain just to add a little bite. And I used agave syrup instead of simple syrup. Improved margarita flavor and slightly improved glycemic effect.
