Spring Sweets Week
This is the end of the week for the event but there are so many delicious recipes from the participating bloggers that we will be looking at them for a long time! Many thanks to our amazing hostess, Heather, from Hezzi D’s Books and Cooks and these truly generous sponsors: Melissa’s Produce, Anolon, Taylor and Colledge, and Selefina Spices. The participating companies sent us samples to use in our creations.
Strawberry Pink Peppercorn Breakfast Smoothie
I love to make smoothies but rarely remember to make them in the morning so when creating this drink for Spring Sweets Week, I made it my mission to actually drink this in the morning. I succeeded and even made the smoothie two more times that same day. The recipe makes one serving but it can be easily doubled or tripled.
Using fresh strawberries from Melissa’s Produce and the subtle spiciness of the Pink Peppercorns from Selefina Spices, this smoothie is a winner. I also used a banana for creaminess, almond milk, and pure maple syrup. Five simple ingredients.
If you’re thinking pepper in a smoothie, you’d be very surprised to know it really enhances the smoothie. You’re using a very small amount so you’re overwhelming the drink with the pepper flavor. Just that, “hmmm, what is that?” factor. It’s a tasty refreshment that will make you smile.
Why you’ll love this smoothie
- It’s easy to make and uses just a few ingredients all of which are healthy for you, just like this lemon smoothie.

Add this smoothie to your recipe collection. Change up the fruits, too. I made it using frozen strawberries and fresh blueberries. So yummy. Your taste buds will thank you.
Substitutions and Add-ins
- You can use frozen strawberries in this smoothie in place of fresh ones.
- Add a handful of fresh spinach leaves to make green smoothies.
- If you’re into beet powder, a scoop would be a delicious addition.
- Want to add more fiber? Add in some flax seed or chia seeds.
- No pink peppercorns? Try a dash of black pepper.
- I like to add a scoop of protein powder to the blender.
- Raspberries are also great in this smoothie.
- Use honey in place of the maple syrup if desired.
- I used almond milk, but regular milk. oat, cashew. soy or your favorite milk all work well.
- Omit the milk and use orange juice or yogurt instead.
