Slow Cooker Rosemary Dinner Rolls are super easy to make with frozen bread dough. Soft, fragrant rolls that are ready to serve with minimal effort. These rolls bring a homemade touch to any meal, whether it’s a special holiday dinner or a casual weeknight meal.
I totally love slow cooker recipes that make my life easier like these fluffy rosemary dinner rolls. Using the slow cooker and frozen dough, you cut down on the prep time and you save oven space. What you aren’t skimping out on is the taste of homemade rolls with fresh herbs.
Do you often have bread with dinner? We do occasionally and definitely with a holiday feast. These rosemary dinner rolls baked in the crockpot are now part of my Sunday dinner menus. They are always on the menu with our Thanksgiving roasted turkey and gravy and when we have this slow cooker creamy potato and ham soup. We are bread dippers – gotta soak up all the gravy or broth!
Slow Cooker Rosemary Dinner Rolls
Rosemary dinner rolls are so easy to make when you start with a shortcut using frozen bread dough balls. There’s no thawing them out or kneading to be done. Just place them in the bottom of the crock, let them rise, and bake.
If you often forget to make bread for dinner, this recipe is a lifesaver. I always plan to make homemade rolls with frozen dough, but somehow forget to thaw them in time. So, dinner ends up roll-free—unless I’ve promised them to the family, in which case it’s all about the missing rolls!
Best of all, his recipe is perfect for holidays when the oven is full of your side dishes. Usually, the oven temperature is never the same for any of the sides. Bake those rolls in the slow cooker and no worries!
Timesaving Tips and Variations
- This recipe is best made in a 6-quart slow cooker.
- I use Rhodes frozen dinner rolls and they can be found in the freezer section of your local grocery store.
- Use parchment paper in the slow cooker and spray the paper with non-stick spray.
- Resist the urge to open the lid to the slow cooker at any time during the rising and baking cycles. Doing so will not only add time to the baking but may cause your rolls not to rise as much.
- The rolls won’t get super golden brown, just lightly browned. You can remove the rolls from the crockpot and place them on a baking sheet. Turn your broiler on and place them in there to brown about 90 seconds.
- Add a teaspoon of garlic powder or sprinkle minced fresh garlic on top of the rolls before cooking.
- Sprinkle shredded Parmesan, cheddar, or mozzarella cheese over the rolls once they are done baking, replace the lid and allow the cheese to melt.
- Use fresh oregano in place of the rosemary.
What to Serve with Dinner Rolls
Pretty much anything goes with these buns. If we have any left, we use them to make sandwiches. If you make them without the rosemary, they are great to enjoy for breakfast with a little jam.
- Slow Cooker Spiral Ham
- Pork Chop Casserole
- Chicken and Cheese Lasagna Roll-Ups
- Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche
- Melt in Your Mouth Perfect Oven Pot Roast
The options are really endless, bread is one food that can go with anything!

Just 4 simple ingredients to make the best fluffy and soft baked bread bites.
Directions to Make Rolls in the Slow Cooker
Line a 6-quart slow cooker with parchment paper and lightly spray with non-stick spray. Place 10 frozen dough balls in the slow cooker, leaving a little space between each.
Place lid on slow cooker and set to LOW for 1 hour and 15 minutes. This is the thawing and rising cycle. Resist the urge to remove the lid during this cycle. Doing so will add time to the process and risk the rolls of not rising properly.
When the time is up for the rising cycle, set the slow cooker on HIGH and let the rolls bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. The rolls will brown on the bottom but not the top. Again, resist the urge to open the lid during the baking cycle.
At this point, they are done. You can lightly brush melted butter on them, and sprinkle with the rosemary and coarse salt. They are ready to serve. However, if you want them to be a little more brown on the tops, preheat your broiler. Remove the rolls with the parchment paper and place on a baking sheet. Set under the broiler for 90 seconds to brown.
Ready to fill your kitchen with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bread? Grab your ingredients and let your slow cooker do the work.
