I first used this fun exotic fruit while learning How to Make Homemade Dragon Fruit Jam and I loved it. So a Pitaya Smoothie bowl sounded not only fun but delicious to make. My banana split smoothie bowl is on rotation with this one. I also love to make fun drinkable smoothies like this Chunky Monkey Smoothie or this Kiwano and Blood Orange Smoothie. They all are delicious and easy to make.

Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl

Dragon fruit smoothie bowls start with frozen fruits and bananas, to make them extra creamy and sweet. It’s a simple recipe in that you blend everything until it’s super smooth and thick – thick enough to hold toppings.

Add your favorite toppings like fresh berries and other fresh fruit, and for a crunchy texture, add nuts or seeds. The best part is you can put almost anything you want on a smoothie bowl, so it’s easy to make it just how you like it.

What is a Smoothie Bowl?

Simply put, a smoothie bowl is a thicker version of traditional smoothies, designed to be consumed with a spoon rather than a straw. This consistency allows for the addition of various toppings, transforming the smoothie into a delicious meal or snack

What Does Dragon Fruit Taste Like?

Dragon fruit has a subtle, mildly sweet flavor, often described as a blend between a kiwi and a pear. Its delicate taste makes it a versatile ingredient that complements the other ingredients and flavors well.

Is Dragon Fruit Good for You?

Yes, it is a good source of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. It is particularly rich in vitamin C and various B vitamins.

Smoothie Bowl Topping Ideas

The best part about this recipe is how customizable it is. Here are few more ideas to get creative with:

  • Add some Granola in your favorite flavor for more crunch.
  • Substitute the peptia seeds for Almonds, walnuts, pecans, or sunflower seeds.
  • Shredded coconut adds a tropical touch and a bit of chewiness.
  • Try using mango or pineapple pieces.
  • Raisins or cranberries are also great to add.
  • A drizzle of honey or maple syrup for extra sweetness (use sparingly).
  • Adding some chia seeds or flax seeds is a great way to get more fiber and omega-3s.
  • A few chocolate chips are always a good thing.

There are so many ways to customize your breakfast bowls. If preparing for kids, get them involved in the process!

What to Serve with a Smoothie Bowl

It’s a meal on its own but if you want something else to serve with it, here are a few suggestions.

I love dragon fruit. The yellow dragon fruit is extra sweet too!

  5. One of my favorite fruits! In Houston we only tend to get the dragon fruit that is white inside which is a pity because the pinky-purple ones are, in my opinion, better. I would love your smoothie bowl as a breakfast or a snack!

    1. We seem to only get the red dragon fruit here (the pinky-purple ones). I’ve had the white and the yellow, too. All are delicious but the red one is so pretty.
