#BBQWeek
This is the third annual #BBQWeek hosted by A Kitchen Hoor’s Adventures. We are excited to have 15 bloggers sharing over 50 recipes this week as we head toward grilling season. Our amazing sponsors, Rainier Foods and Intensity Academy Saucy Queen, have sent us sample products to use in our creations.
Grilled Glazed Blackberry Chicken
The blackberry glaze is a delicious change from the BBQ sauce you may normally use when grilling chicken and it’s worth the extra couple of steps to make it. Before you think that this is glaze is too sweet for meat, let me tell you that by adding the stone ground mustard it will cut some of the sweetness of the fruit and it tastes amazing. The glaze is amazing.
I tend to use savory seasonings when I season chicken for grilling, so I was excited to try this Blackberry Smoky Honey Seasoning and Dry Rub for this recipe. It was equally as amazing as the glaze was. The seasoning is loaded with pure dried blackberries, real honey, and spices like pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic. I sprinkled some on the chicken before grilling and adding the glaze. Check out the other seasonings and dry rubs from Rainier Foods, too. I also love their Gochu (Go-Choo) Seasoning & Rub.
This grilled blackberry chicken recipe is perfect to make at your next BBQ or summer cookout.
Ingredients
- 6 ounces fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon stone ground mustard
- 2 tablespoons unsalted COLD butter
- 6 chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
- 1 – 2 tablespoons Blackberry Smoky Honey Seasoning and Dry Rub
Directions
Make the blackberry sauce. Combine frozen or fresh blackberries, water, lemon juice, and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Mash the blackberries as you stir, and cook until the mixture is reduced to about ⅔ cup. It will be a little thick.
Remove from the heat and stir in the 2 tablespoons cold butter and the grainy mustard. Essentially, you just made Blackberry BBQ Sauce.
Transfer half the glaze to a small bowl, this will be used to serve with the cooked chicken. You will use the other half to baste the chicken while grilling.
Preheat grill to medium heat (about 350 – 375 degrees F.). Season both sides of the boneless, skinless chicken breasts with the blackberry smoky honey dry rub. When grill is ready, cook the chicken for 6-8 minutes, flip the meat over on the other side and baste with the reserved glaze.
Grill chicken for another 6 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches a temperature of 165 degrees F. Flip one last time and use the remaining glaze on the chicken. Remove chicken to a platter and allow to rest for a couple of minutes before serving. Serve with the blackberry glaze you reserved in a small bowl.

Raspberries would be so good!
Love that you doubled down on the blackberry flavor with the rub and the glaze! Our patch is looking great this year, need to order some of the seasoning so I can give it a try!
That seasoning is also great over fresh fruit!
Blackberry and chicken go so well together. Yum!
Yes, they do!
Blackberry rub AND glaze? This sounds awesome!
I have been loving blackberries lately! This sounds absolutely delicious.
Oh my goodness! I bet that blackberry seasoning combined with actual blackberries tastes delicious!! Perfect for chicken.
I didn’t know where the lemon juice went, so I left it out. I also didn’t get the spice rub yet, because I wanted to try the sauce first since I had blackberries to use up. I’m willing to update this, when I do the recipe properly.
Oh my gosh, thank you, Lance! I have updated the recipe. The lemon juice goes in the saucepan with the blackberries.
