I used Swiss but Provolone and Gryuere are also delicious cheeses to use. Mozzarella cheese is another good melty cheese to use.
Tips and Variations
- You can substitute boneless, skinless chicken thighs for the breasts. Cooking time may be a little different.
- Instead of serving over white rice, try cauliflower rice or a slice of toasted Texas toast on a plate and top with the chicken and onion gravy.

Crock Pot French Onion Chicken
Equipment

Ingredients
- 1½ pounds boneless and skinless chicken breasts, cut in half lengthwise. (you want thinner pieces)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 can (10.6 ounces) Campbell's Condensed French Onion soup
- 1 package Lipton onion soup mix (dry)
- 5 slices Swiss cheese (use more if you like)
Instructions
- Slice you chicken breasts in half lengthwise for thinner slices and place in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Top chicken pieces with the sliced onions.
- Pour the soup over the meat and onions; then top with the soup mix.
- Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours. Check at the 4 hours mark as some slow cookers can cook faster.
- Once the meat is cooked and tender, top with cheese and let it melt with the cover on. Serve over rice or one of the suggestions in the blog posts.
