This cinnamon-ginger-nutmeg mix is perfect for my favorite pumpkin spice glazed scones and it can also be used to make a delicious homemade pumpkin spice creamer to add to your favorite fall coffee drinks.  Add this fall-flavoring blend to beverages, desserts, baked goods, snacks, and more.

I love pumpkin anything year round, not just during the Fall or Thanksgiving time. That’s when I decided this recipe for pumpkin spice homemade mix was a must to make and keep on hand at all times.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Mix

This blend contains four of my favorite spices to use in nearly all of my pumpkin recipes: cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice. Some recipes include ground cloves but this one does not. If you prefer to add ground cloves, about ½ teaspoon will be the perfect amount to add to the mix. This seasoning blend can also be called pumpkin pie spice since the seasonings in it are the same as you would find in a pumpkin pie.

The recipe is not complicated by any means. Measure the ingredients and blend. Pour into an airtight container or mason jar and store in your pantry. I recommend that you make a double or triple batch if love to bake with the warm fall flavors.

Store-bought spice mixes often sit on shelves for months, losing their potency over time. When you make your own, you ensure that each component is fresh and bursting with flavor.

Is Pumpkin Spice the same as Allspice?

No, it’s not. Allspice is a singular spice that has the flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves but it alone will not replace pumpkin blend. Allspice is a dried fruit from Mexico and Central America. Pumpkin spice has a more robust flavor and allspice enhances that flavor.

Can I use this to make a Pumpkin Spice Latte?

Yes, you can and I often use this mix for that very reason. You can stir it in your coffee or in the frothed milk. I like to use it in my hot tea and smoothies, too.

What can I use Pumpkin Pie Spice for?

Besides pumpkin pie and drinks, you can add a sprinkling to your morning oatmeal or sprinkle it over some baked sweet potatoes. Fall desserts like this Pumpkin Pie Crisp with Streusel Topping, Pumpkin Bread, and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bars are all delicious recipes to use it in.

Can I substitute Pumpkin Spice for Cinnamon?

Yes, because this pumpkin mix contains more cinnamon than the other ingredients, it is a great substitute for cinnamon. Try it in French Toast, Slow Cooker Apple Pear Crisp, or these Apple Pie Tacos.

How Long Does Homemade Pumpkin Spice Mix Last?

Typically spices are good for 2 – 3 years as long as they are stored in airtight containers. Before mixing up the blend, check each container to make sure they haven’t expired. You want to use fresh spices for maximum flavor.
