I keep saying that each cookie recipe I made this week has been my favorite, but I really think these Orange Cardamom Snickerdoodle Cookies ARE my favorite. They just have everything in a cookie I love. Soft, chewy, and spices that make me think of the holidays. Of course, my classic snickerdoodle recipe is a VERY close second to these now.

From the outside, they look just like a classic snickerdoodle but one bite will tell they are so much more!

This is my last recipe for #ChristmasCookiesWeek and I just know you will love it. It’s been a wonderful week sharing my recipes along with my blogger friends’ recipes with you. Have you found any new favorites to try?

Here’s What I am Sharing

Orange Cardamom Snickerdoodle Cookies

I don’t bake nearly enough with warm winter spices like cardamom, so when trying to come up with a cookie to use it in, snickerdoodles kept coming to mind. I also felt orange zest needed to be somewhere in the cookie as it goes so well with cardamom. After a little experimenting with my classic snickerdoodle recipe, this one was born and it’s perfect.

I will also tell you in the testing phase, I only had 1 stick of butter left and I needed two. I only had coconut oil in the pantry and I really wasn’t sure about it but once I tasted the cookie, I was hooked! THe combination of the butter and coconut oil was perfect. The coconut flavor is so subtle but it made the cookie extra soft and tender.

Step 3

In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the butter, coconut oil, and 1½ cups sugar. Mix until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and the orange zest, mixing until combined.

Step 5

Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined and a dough forms. At this point, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes. This will help the cookies maintain their “pillowy” status once baked.

Step 6

A few minutes before the dough comes out of the refrigerator, preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

Step 7

In a small bowl, combine the cardamom and the ¼ cup sugar.

Step 8

Using a 1½ tablespoon cookie scoop, form dough balls and roll them in the cardamom and sugar mixture. Place on the prepared cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Very slightly pat the cookie down. Bake for 8 – 10 minutes. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

Store baked cookies in an airtight container for about a week. They can be frozen for up to 3 months.

    1. Ditto. My feelings exactly. I have a favorite and then I post another recipe and that one becomes the favorite. It’s been a pleasure spending Christmas Cookies Week with you and I especially loved your Hot Cocoa Candy Cane Cake Mix Cookies earlier this week. These snickerdoodles sound amazing too…don’t make me pick a favorite!!!

    2. I have a jar of cardamom that I’ve been wondering how to use so this is excellent timing. Thank you for joining me this week!
