Patriotic Sugar Cookie Cups
If you need a quick sweet treat to bring to any patriotic holidays this summer, this is the one to bring. All you need is a package of refrigerated ready-to-bake sugar cookie dough, a can of white frosting, a piping bag, and some fun sprinkles.
The patriotic cookies are super cute and fun to make. It’s a great recipe to get the kids involved in decorating the cookie cups.
Can I use homemade sugar cookie dough?
Yes, you can use homemade sugar cookie dough to make this patriotic dessert. About one tablespoon of dough will fill each mini muffin cup. The same goes for using the refrigerated sugar cookie roll of dough.
Do I have to use canned frosting?
No, you can absolutely use homemade frosting such as this cream cheese frosting or your favorite buttercream icing. Or, even add about one teaspoon of extract flavoring to the canned frosting to give it a different taste. Try lemon, coconut, almond, or even peppermint extracts. To bump up the vanilla flavor of the canned white frosting, add about one teaspoon of vanilla extract to it and mix well.

Can I freeze the cookie cups?
I would recommend not freezing the filled cookie cups but you can easily freeze the baked cookie cups. Simple bake as directed in the recipe, cool, and then place on a parchment paper lined sheet pan. Place tray in the freezer until cookies are frozen, about 2 hours, and then place in a freezer-safe airtight container for up to 3 months. To use: thaw and then fill as directed in the recipe card.
