So, what’s in the cookies?

I’m so thrilled to be joining this great event for the first time, and I’m starting the week with a yummy holiday cookie.  Eggnog Blossom Cookies are a fun way to celebrate the holidays, and all things cookies.

The eggnog flavor comes from one of our sponsor’s, LorAnn Oils and Flavors, and no eggnog recipe is complete without a bit of nutmeg.  I’ve added a white chocolate kiss to the top of each cookie, for an even more festive look and taste.

Once you’ve mixed the cookie dough up, make 1-inch balls of dough and roll them in the spice mixture of nutmeg and sugar.  Then you just have to wait for them to bake before you top each cookie with a white chocolate kiss.  The hardest part of this recipe is waiting for the chocolate to set before you can eat them. I may or may not have waited for that to happen.

I was excited to use the LorAnn flavorings to make new recipes for my holiday baking frenzy.   Just so you know, the eggnog flavoring is super yummy in french toast, too.  Later this week, I’ll be sharing a yummy cookie recipe using LorAnn’s Maple flavoring.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened (1 stick)
  • 3/4 cup sugar divided
  • 1 tbsp heavy crean
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp LorAnn's Super Strength Eggnog flavor*
  • 1 pinch ground cloves
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg divided
  • 24 Hershey's Hugs unwrapped

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer (or using an electric hand mixer), beat the butter and 1/2 cup of the sugar until creamy, about 1 minute.
  • Add the cream, eggnog flavoring, cloves, egg yolk and 3/4 teaspoon of the nutmeg and beat until smooth.
  • Add the flour mixture and mix on low speed until the dough is combined.
  • Roll the dough into twenty-four 1-inch balls.
  • In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoos nutmeg.
  • Roll the balls in the spiced sugar to coat, and then arrange 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake in preheated oven for about 14 minutes. Remove the cookies from pans and on to a wire rack. Immediately press a candy hug in the center of each cookie while it is still soft and warm.
  • Do not move the cookies until the chocolate has completely set and the cookies are cool, at least 1 hour.

Notes

Notes: *when using LorAnn Eggnog flavor, keep in mind it's a super strength flavoring. A little goes a long way. Typically recipes that call for 1 teaspoon of extracts, you will use half that with the super strength flavors. I used a little more than 1/2 teaspoon in these and the eggnog flavor was wonderful.
IF the white chocolate isn't hardening quick enough for you, set them in the refrigerator for a few minutes to harden then remove. Store in an airtight container.

  1. There are a number of things that I make and or bake each year for Christmas. I bake a Sticky Toffee Pudding bundt cake. I also make eggnog cheesecake bars and lots of eggnog bread.

  2. These look delicious! I love everything eggnog flavored. My favorite this time of year is everything eggnog, peppermint or gingerbread.

  3. My favorite baked good is sugar cookie cut-outs with lots of frosting. I look forward to this time of year because it’s the only time I get these tasty treats.

  4. I love making desserts for Christmas, my specialty is Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Pie. I know I am old fashioned, but it is what my children and grandchildren ask for. Thank you for the giveaways, I would be grateful for a special gift for myself for Christmas.

  5. My favorite Christmas goodie is I bake Red Velvet Cookies with cream cheeze icing, yummy, I make homemade Eggnog too

  6. Peppermint bark is my favorite Christmas sweet 🙂 I like to make something new every year, though.

Thanks for the chance to win and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

  7. I like Peppermint Bark. I try to make different things each year; sometimes I end up making old favorites, sometimes not. But it’s fun either way!

  8. We have a stack of recipes we always make and we usually throw in a new one we’ve found. We always have sugar cookies, Russian teacakes, and gingerbread men.. Then something new that may or may not become a part of our Christmas tradition
