After I found out what was in my favorite taco seasoning packet and made my own Taco Seasoning, I wanted to make one that could be used for chili. It’s nice to know exactly what is in the mix you are using and you can change the amounts to suit your taste buds. I did base it on my taco seasoning mix so you can see that I simply changed amounts of the spices and added some others to the mix.
I also made an easy homemade fajita seasoning that is delicious to use on these oven baked chicken fajitas or these Chicken Fajita Quesadillas.
Since this easy to make homemade chili seasoning mix uses 10 spices that you most likely have in your pantry, you can make a large batch to keep on hand. Simply double or triple the amounts I have in the recipe.

It takes only a few minutes to measure and mix up this homemade chili seasoning. I normally will just triple the amount and keep in a glass jar; then measure out what I need. Two tablespoons is the equivalent of one package of store-bought chili mix.

This sounds great. And I can make it ahead for whenever I want chili. Hope you have a great day!
Thanks Heidi for visiting and that’s exactly why I make a huge container of it. Always have it on hand and I use it for so much more than chili.
I am sensitive to salt and find that the packet mixes are just too salty. I know there are low sodium versions, but I also like the idea of no fillers, preservatives, etc. Make a big batch and have it when you need it! Thanks for sharing this great idea with See Ya in the Gumbo this week.
Thanks for stopping by Michelle and for the wonderful comments! The seasoning mix can be used in place of other packets too, love that!
