If you’re like me, you find that you need a small gift for someone or need to bring something to an event at the last minute.  This easy peanut butter chocolate swirl bark recipe is perfect for either of those situations.  I always keep on hand the simple ingredients to make simple candy recipes such as this one.

Creating candy recipes like this makes it easy to get creative with your flavors and toppings. I used my favorite two combinations and added the mini Reese’s cups to give it even more flavor and a little more texture. It’s also my hubby’s favorite candy so I call that a win.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Swirl Bark

The recipe is straightforward and doesn’t require any baking. The only appliance you will need is a microwave to melt the chocolate. That makes this a great recipe to have kids assist in making or if they’re old enough to create themselves.

If you’re new to candy-making, then this is the perfect recipe to start with. There are just 4 ingredients, chocolate, peanut butter chips, coconut oil, and mini peanut butter cups. Really the hardest part is trying to wait until it’s set to break it up and eat a piece!

⏰Timesaving Tips and Variations

  • Use a good quality melting chocolate, like Ghirardelli.
  • Peanut butter chips can be found in the baking aisle in the grocery store. I like to use these.
  • When melting any chocolate, following the package directions is key.
  • If you can’t find the mini peanut butter cups, you can use the regular-sized ones and cut them into pieces.
  • When holiday candy goes on sale, like the Reese’s Cups, I like to buy an extra bag or two and place in the freezer. They’re great for cravings but also for recipes like this one or to use in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream.
  • I like to use an offset spatula to spread the melted candy evenly and smoothly.

Can I use different types of chocolate?

Yes, you can use white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, dark chocolate, or even a mix of your favorite chocolates.

How do I store candy bark?

Store the candy bark in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool, dry place for up to 1 week. You can also freeze it for longer storage. During the summer months, store bark in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Can I add other toppings?

Absolutely! Get creative with toppings like pretzels, dried fruits, or other candy pieces for added flavor and texture. Reese’s Pieces, M&M’s, or sprinkles all are great toppings for this recipe.

What if my chocolate seizes?

If your chocolate seizes, add a teaspoon of melted coconut oil and stir until smooth.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces good quality milk chocolate (I use Ghirardelli)
  • 3/4 cup Reese’s peanut butter chips
  • 2 – 3 teaspoons melted coconut oil
  • 1 cup mini Reese’s peanut butter cups

Directions to Make

Place parchment paper on a large sheet pan. Set aside. Follow the package directions for melting the milk chocolate. I microwaved mine at half power in 30-second increments, stirring after every 30 seconds until melted and smooth.

Spread the melted chocolate in an even layer on the parchment paper, it will NOT cover the pan. I used an offset spatula to create an even and smooth layer.

Melt peanut butter chips in a microwave-safe bowl by microwaving at half power in 20-second intervals, stirring until melted. The chips should be smooth and run off the spoon easily. If yours seems too thick, stir in 2 – 3 teaspoons of melted coconut oil to thin it out. Just enough to make it smooth and pourable.

Drizzle the melted peanut butter chips on top of the chocolate. Run a toothpick or knife through the peanut butter in a circular motion to get the swirl effect.

swirl melted peanut butter into the melted chocolate

Sprinkle evenly with peanut butter cups. Let the candy set at room temperature, for 1 to 2 hours or until firm. Alternatively, you can place the pan in the refrigerator until the candy is firm. Break or cut into serving-size pieces.

Serve or package up in cute treat bags or tins to give as gifts.
