When I first made this cake I wasn’t so sure how it would go over with the family as they really aren’t a chocolate cake and frosting bunch. I’m happy to say this easy black forest bundt cake was a super hit with everyone! This cake has it all – chocolate, fruity filling, chocolate ganache and whipped cream. It’s a rich chocolate cake that bakes up moist and adding the chocolate ganache just adds to the gorgeousness of this dessert.

Black Forest Cake is the perfect cake to start out this week as my fellow foodie bloggers and I share all things CHOCOLATE for #ChocolateWeek. Celebrate with us by following the hashtag throughout social media and sharing your favorites. The recipes will get your taste buds flowing on what sweet desserts to make for Valentine’s Day.

While this cake is great in any pan or form you choose to bake it, I love using my bundt pan. Something about the design and shape that makes cakes seem so special. My German chocolate cake with coconut frosting and Lemon cake both look great made in a bundt pan. Of course, they’d taste delicious made in any pan, too.

What I’m Sharing This Week:

What is a Black Forest Cake

This rich cake has German roots and is also called Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte which consists of layers of chocolate sponge cake, a cherry liqueur syrup, fresh cherries, and whipped cream. Topping the cake off with chocolate shavings.

A more Americanized version of this cake includes a soft and moist chocolate cake, cherry pie filling, and omitting the cherry syrup.

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl combine the cake mix, pudding, yogurt, oil, almond extract paste, and eggs. I used a whisk to combine the ingredients, but a electric mixer works too.
