Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken
This Asian-inspired Slow Cooker Honey Chicken is a hassle-free dinner solution to what’s for dinner. It’s takeout food made at home. This delicious honey garlic chicken is simmered in a sweet and tangy sauce and is ready in just a few hours, making it the perfect weeknight meal.
I just love slow cooker recipes that use ingredients I already have in the pantry and don’t have to go to the store to get them. That’s this recipe and if you love making your favorite Asian-inspired takeout dishes at home, you most likely will have everything to make this crockpot honey sesame chicken for dinner this week.
There’s something so comforting about a slow cooker dinner and when I can save money by making recipes from our favorite restaurants, that makes the meal taste even better. This Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken fits into both of those categories as does this Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli. We also love this Bang Bang Shrimp Pasta and Instant Pot Pork Lo Mein from time to time. Some of those even feed us for lunch or dinner the day, too. That’s a win, if you ask me.
Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken
The recipe for this crock pot honey sesame chicken is super easy and pretty much hands-off. The basis for the sauce is soy sauce, honey, and a lot of garlic. It’s so good and coats the poultry while everything simmers. Jasmine rice goes well with the garlic chicken, soaking up the rich, flavorful sauce.
Slow cooking isn’t just convenient, it’s like flavor magic. The low heat gives all the ingredients time to really blend and build layers of taste. Plus, it’s the best way to make tender, fall-apart meat with zero stress.
Timesaving Tips and Variations
- You can use boneless chicken breasts as I did, or boneless chicken thighs.
- Don’t care for a lot of garlic, use half the amount called for in the recipe.
- Instead of shredding the meat, you can leave it whole and serve it that way.
- Add some frozen broccoli with the meat and sauce for the last 30 minutes.
- Want to add a big spice? Add some chili paste to the sauce.
- Your choice of rice can be white or brown.
- For a low-carb alternative, try cauliflower rice or a crisp green salad.
- Try using quinoa for more fiber and protein.
Using the tips gives you a few options to be creative with the recipe.
Storing Leftovers
Got leftovers? Lucky you! Store them in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in microwave or on stovetop.
What to Serve with Honey Sesame Chicken
While we like to serve this with some steamed broccoli, here are a few other delicious ideas.
- Roasted Green Beans
- Broccoli Salad with Almonds and Cranberries
- Honey Roasted Carrots
- A tossed green salad also goes great
This would also be delicious to serve over lo mein noodles in place of the rice.

How to Make Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken
In your slow cooker add the chicken in a single layer. Using the micrograter, grate the garlic into the crockpot. Add the soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, and salt and pepper. Stir until well combined, coating the chicken on both sides.
Cover and cook in the slow cooker for 3-4 hours on high or 6-7 hours on low. Make sure to flip the chicken breast over when cooked halfway. Once fully cooked, shred the meat. You can use two forks to do this task or a hand mixer. I find the forks are just as fast.
Once you shred the meat, mix it well with the sauce, cover it, and let sit on LOW until your rice is ready.
Serve over jasmine rice and top with scallions and sesame seeds for garnish.
