Turtle Chocolate Chip Cookies are the perfect combination of nuts, caramel, and chocolate. This cookie is decadent, delicious, and will become your favorite.

Have you ever craved more than one cookie at a time? That’s what happened with these Turtle Chocolate Chip Cookies. I really wanted to make chocolate chip cookies, but I was also craving caramel and pecans. Adding all of those “cravings” in one delicious cookie dough was the answer. Then, drizzling chocolate over the cookies – now that is what I call THE perfect cookie.

What is a Turtle Chocolate Chip Cookie?

Turtle Cookies are cookies made with all of the delicious flavors and textures traditionally found in turtle chocolate candy. Ingredients like chocolate, caramel, and pecans. This is most certainly the perfect combination of flavors in one cookie.

Ingredients

  • butter
  • light brown sugar
  • white granulated sugar
  • eggs
  • vanilla extract
  • flour
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • caramel bits
  • pecans

How to Make Turtle Chocolate Chip Cookies

Making chocolate chip turtle cookies is easy if you start by gathering all of your ingredients and equipment. Having everything out saves time.

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare large baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until fluffy and well combined. Add the eggs one at a time and mix well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla.

Step 4

Slowly add the flour mixture, scraping down the sides as needed. Fold in the chocolate chips, caramel bits, and pecans.

Step 5

Using a tablespoon cookie scoop, portion the dough and place on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Press pecan halves or extra morsels into the top of each cookie dough ball.

Step 6

Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool 5 to 7 minutes on the cookie sheets before transferring them to a wire rack to completely cool. Drizzle with additional chocolate, if desired.

How to Store Cookies

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Baked cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months in an airtight, freezer safe container.

Can You Make Ahead?

Chocolate Chip Turtle cookies can be made ahead. Simply follow the recipe and stop before you bake them. Place dough balls on a wax paper line tray and flash freeze. Once the dough is frozen, place in a freezer safe container and freeze for up to 3 months.

When ready to bake, take the cookie dough out of the freezer and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Then bake as directed.

  • You can use walnuts in place of the pecans
  • Change out the chocolate chips for dark chocolate chips
  • Drizzle with white chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate.
  • Freeze baked cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
  • Freeze unbaked cookie dough balls for up to 3 months, thaw and bake as directed.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour

  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel bits
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
