Growing up fudgesicles were probably the only frozen treat we had in the house. Occasionally, we had a carton of ice cream but fudgesicles were one of my Dad’s favorites. Making these Easy Homemade Creamy Fudgesicles was super fun and easy.

I love chocolate and popsicles so it was an easy decision to make these not only because they creamy delicious, but because they also remind me of my Dad. Good memories.

Easy Homemade Creamy Fudgesicles

Just 5 ingredients in this creamy fudgesicle recipe and freezer time is all it takes. Popsicles are so fun to eat and super easy to make. I don’t know why I haven’t made more, but that will change.

These creamy and chocolatey fudgesicles are such a treat and being homemade you know exactly what is in them. Not to mention, it’s much cheaper to make them yourself. Saving a trip to grocery store is definitely an “in’ thing to do these days, right?

You will need a set (or two) of popsicle molds but that expense will pay for itself over and over again as you can make fudgesicles all the time and so many other great popsicles. I recommend these popsicle molds for two reasons, they are made of silicone, easy to get the popsicles out, and clean up is easy (dishwasher safe). Okay that was three reasons, but you get my drift.

Also needed are the wooden popsicle sticks which can be found at any craft store and even the dollar store. If you’re wanting to reuse the sticks, these plastic sticks may be what you want.

What’s the best cocoa powder to use in making fudgesicles?

The best cocoa powder is an unsweetened one like Hershey’s. Dutch-processed cocoa powder is an excellent choice as is Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder. Just be sure it’s unsweetened.

How long will Fudgesicles last in the freezer?

Homemade fudgesicles will last in the freezer for a couple days if you leave them in the molds. After that they will lose a bit of texture and color, still tasting great though. I like to remove them from the silicone molds when totally frozen and wrap each in individual storage bags them place them a larger bag back in the freezer. They’ll be great to keep this way in the freezer for about 3 weeks….if they even make it past day two.

How do I fill the popsicle molds?

To fill the popsicle molds, I find it best to pour the slightly cooled fudge mixture into a glass measuring cup with a spout. This way you are controlling where to mixture goes much better than from the saucepan. Be sure to tap the molds slightly to get any air bubbles out.

  • 2 cups low fat or skim milk
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup or agave syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make these easy Homemade Creamy Fudgesicles

Step 1

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the milk, cocoa powder, sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla extract.

Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring often, and then reduce the heat to low.

Step 3

When the sugar is completely dissolved, remove the saucepan from the stovetop. Allow it to cool slightly before pouring into the popsicle molds. To fill the popsicle molds, pour the slightly cooled fudge mixture into a glass measuring cup with a spout. This way you are controlling where to mixture goes much better than from the saucepan. Be sure to tap the molds slightly to get any air bubbles out.

Step 4

Cover the molds and freeze for about 5 hours or overnight. To remove the popsicles, dip the popsicle mold in hot water for 5 to 7 seconds. *Tip: If you make the fudgesicles early in the morning, they will be ready for an after dinner treat.

I told you this was an easy recipe to make popsicles. Just mix the ingredients, pour into molds, and freeze. The wait is the hardest part!

Tips, Tricks, and FAQs

  • If your popsicle mold doesn’t come with a cover like this one, it’s best to let your fudgesicles freeze for about two hours before inserting the wooden popsicle stick. Waiting a bit will ensure the stick will stand up on it’s own and freeze in the perfect position. Then freeze for another 3 hours or overnight.
  • Use a good quality cocoa powder for the best results.
  • As an alternative to the conventional mold, you can use small Dixie cups (like the bathroom cup size) to make popsicles in. Prepare recipe as directed, cover cups with plastic wrap, and allow to freeze in cups a couple of hours before inserting the sticks. Then freeze for another 3 hours or so.
  • Using whole milk in place of the lowfat will result in a deeper chocolate flavor, while using nonfat milk will give it more of an ice pop texture.
