Irish Pub Style Potato Nachos
Irish Pub Style Potato Nachos are the ultimate crowd-pleasing appetizer for St. Patrick’s Day or snack night. Crispy potatoes, melted cheese, and your favorite nacho toppings are all piled high to devour.
Typically, Irish Potato Nachos are thinly sliced potatoes that are fried and then layered with cheese and nacho toppings. I really hate frying foods so I wanted to make a baked version of the Irish Pub Style Potato Nachos. They turned out really delicious and by the time the pan was empty, my family was asking for more!
Who can resist crispy baked potato rounds, melted cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and other yummy toppings? Not my potato-loving family! We eat our share of potatoes every week!
Irish Pub Style Potato Nachos
Irish pub nachos are loaded up just like regular nachos but instead of tortilla chips, they use crispy fried potato slices! Hello, pass the plate over!
Irish Pub Nachos are just about the best thing ever, in my opinion. Thin sliced baked potatoes, layered with loads of gooey cheddar cheese, and crispy bacon, then topped with any or all of your favorite nacho toppings. We love adding sliced jalapenos, pico de gallo, and sour cream, garnishing with sliced green onions.
So so good!
You’ll make them for game day food, moving watching food, and for St. Patrick’s Day. Not to mention, just because you crave them.
It’s lunch or dinner food too. Just ask my family.
Are Irish Nachos really Irish?
Well, no Irish Nachos aren’t really Irish but they do use the beloved Irish potato! Ha! Irish Pub Style Potato Nachos are really a product from pub owners to serve their patrons. Genius, if you ask me. Whether you are enjoying them in Irish pubs or your favorite sports bar, the potato nachos are truly addicting. A plate of potato nachos and a glass of Guinness while watching the Super Bowl sounds perfect to me.
What potatoes are best for potato nachos?
I like using medium-sized russet potatoes but Yukon gold or red potatoes do well, too.
What types of cheese should you use for this Irish nachos recipe?
I feel a good sharp cheddar cheese has the best flavor for Irish Potato Nachos. It’s also best to shred it fresh from the block. Pre-shredded bagged cheese often includes fillers that prevent it from melting evenly.
What Toppings Should I Put on Irish Nachos?
Really just about any topping you’d put on traditional nachos are a go for potato nachos. We like to add sharp cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, Pico de Gallo, sour cream, green onions, and jalapeño slices. But, leftover chili or cooked taco seasoned ground beef would be wonderful. Even adding guacamole or black beans sounds amazing. Add whatever your favorite toppings are and you can’t go wrong.

- Sharp cheddar cheese is what I used but pepper jack or habanero cheese is just as delicious and will spice the nachos up even more.
- Substitute turkey bacon for the bacon crumbles, if you prefer.
- No potatoes? No problem. Use frozen tater tots, waffle fries, or steak fries to make easy Irish nachos. Baked as directed on the package and then follow this recipe for the rest.
- Use a sheet of parchment paper on your baking pan for easy clean up.
