I can’t believe I never thought to share this post before, we’ve been making taco charcuterie boards for YEARS but never called them as such. We serve all the fixings in bowls buffet-style at the dinner table, passing them around so everyone can fill their shells with their favorites. It makes for an easy and fun dinner.
We also enjoy this easy breakfast charcuterie board or this mini pancake muffin charcuterie board on the weekends. Sometimes I will add this rainbow fruit charcuterie board with the fiesta, it’s a big hit! Serving grazing trays not only make great appetizers for parties but they are great to serve for light dinners, too.
Taco Charcuterie Board
Creating your DIY taco platter couldn’t be simpler. Picture all your favorite fixings: tortillas, meats, veggies, cheese, salsa, and topping all laid out on a big board or platter. Each person can customize their dinner their way and if you have any dietary preferences, this is also a great way to include the foods they can have. Taco charcuterie board ideas are really endless and you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose to add.
I like to use a large tray for this or several smaller ones. I’ve also utilized my kitchen countertop as the “tray” and had everyone serve themselves from there. Using a variety of bowl sizes to hold some of the foods is a great idea and they add a bit of depth to your display.
Timesaving Tips and Variations
- You can prep most of the ingredients ahead of time.
- I use a homemade taco seasoning mix, but a package from the store works, too.
- Substitute the cherry tomatoes for a larger tomato, remove the seeds and dice into small pieces.
- Buy a rotisserie chicken to shred to save time from cooking the meat.
- If you make recipes that use ground beef, like this one, often consider buying meat in bulk. Cook it up and then freeze in 1 pound packages.
- Short on time? The produce aisle at the grocery store has containers of prechopped vegetables.
- Use different kinds of salsa. Homemade Peach Salsa is delicious with this recipe.
With these tips, you can save time and effort while still impressing your guests!
What types of protein can I include?
Popular options are seasoned ground beef, shredded chicken, pork carnitas, grilled shrimp, and black beans for a vegetarian option. You can also add grilled fish or plant-based meat alternatives to suit different dietary preferences.
What types of tortillas work best?
Use a mix of small flour and corn tortillas so guests have options. You can also include hard shells or lettuce wraps for low-carb alternatives.
Can I make the ingredients ahead of time?
Yes! You can prep most of the ingredients a few hours in advance. Chop veggies, cook proteins, and prepare salsas beforehand. Keep everything refrigerated until it’s time to arrange the platter.
What Sides Can You Serve with Tacos?
Adding sides to your grazing platter brings even more flavor and fun to the table. Here are some tasty, crowd-pleasing side options:
- Slow Cooker Vegetarian Spicy Cheese Dip
- Mexican Red Rice
- Mexican Street Corn
- Spicy Refried Beans
- Pina Colada Tacos (dessert)
