Cheese and Meat Lunch Kabobs – Kid Friendly
Kid-Friendly Cheese and Meat Lunch Kabobs are the perfect lunchtime meal. Easy to make and perfect for kids to help assemble.
It’s that time of the year when the kids are getting ready to head back to school. While I don’t have young children at home anymore, I do have plenty of friends with young ones heading back into the classroom. They’re always looking for fresh ideas to keep the lunch box filled with foods that kids will want to eat.
I love making these easy charcuterie skewers for myself to snack on or to have as lunch. It’s also a fun idea for the school lunch box! They’re easy to make with whatever food items you’re kids enjoy – even the picky eaters.
Cheese and Meat Lunch Kabobs
This really can’t be considered a recipe but I’m saying it is. Preparing the skewers the night before makes getting lunch together for the morning easy. Let your kids help you make them. It’s been proven that if kids are a part of making a meal, they will most likely eat what they help make. What better way to get the kids in the kitchen than this fun recipe that they can make with their favorite meats, different cheeses, and fruits.
Proof that these aren’t just for kids! As I was making these, my mom asked me if they were for lunch. I replied YES! We totally enjoyed them. So, you can even pack yourself a few to take to work. You may even joy this tomato and mozzarella with basil skewers.
What foods can you use to make lunch kabobs?
While I used deli lunch meat, fruits, cheese cubes, and cherry tomatoes, the options are really up to you. Add lettuce slices, olives, a mini pickle, bell peppers, or whatever your kids (or you) like. That’s the fun part – making them with your favorites.
Also, you can include crackers and even dipping sauces like ranch, honey mustard, spicy mayo, or a light salad dressing.
How to assemble cheese and meat kabobs
Step 1
I like to have everything prepped before I start assembling the kabobs. It goes much faster this way. If the kids are helping, you can have them help with that task and place each item in small bowls.
Step 2
In the picture above, I have two sizes of skewers. I used the smaller ones but the larger size is great for us adults to use. Once you have the foods prepped it’s just a matter of assembling the skewers as you would like. It’s THAT easy.
Step 3
Slice the lunch meat into one-inch strips and then roll up and place on a wooden skewer. Add a one-inch cube of cheese, a grape or cherry tomato, and then a piece of fruit. We love grapes, strawberries, and blackberries. Pineapples are great to add, too. Repeat to fill the skewer. Continue to make the kabobs until the desired number is made.
Step 4
Store the individual charcuterie skewers in plastic lunch containers or resealable plastic bags in the refrigerator until ready to pack in lunch boxes.
Tips:
- Pre-measure your wooden skewers to make sure they fit into your kid’s lunchbox container. Trim off any rough edges with kitchen scissors.
- Keep several of the kabob sticks made for convenient snacks for the kids during the week.

This is a fun way to provide a unique lunch idea for kids of all ages. It’s like having your own personal charcuterie board. You don’t have to share!
The cheese and meat skewers are also a great appetizer idea for summer gatherings. You can even create fresh fruit kabobs with everyone’s favorite fruits to serve alongside the meat and cheese combinations.
There’s no wrong way to serve these little skewers of deliciousness.
