Slow Cooker Spiral Ham
Glazed with a 2 ingredient topping, this Slow Cooker Spiral Ham is cooked to perfection. Five minute prep and the result is a delicious glazed tender ham to serve for any holiday meal or Sunday dinner.
I typically make ham in the oven but now that I’ve used the slow cooker for this spiral ham, I’m hooked. Takes less time, stays tender and moist plus the slow cooker is such a space saver appliance. My oven was used for the sides and dinner was time perfectly.
We typically have a spiral ham at Easter and Christmas with one thrown in there in the summer for sandwiches and multiple meals. Heating the oven in the summer isn’t always something I want to do so using the crock pot is ideal.
Slow Cooker Spiral Ham
This slow cooker spiral ham has the best glaze and is only 2 ingredients. Over the years, I’ve used different glazes, some with 2 ingredients and other with more. I am loving this one with the brown sugar and pineapple juice. We love having pineapple with ham so I reserved the juice for the glaze and then grill (or broil) the pineapple to serve later.
Because you are slow cooking the ham, the juices will be abundant and cover the ham in the slow cooker so be sure your ham fits in the crock with a little extra room. I used a 6 quart slow cooker with the 8 pound ham.
How Long to Cook a Ham
I find some slow cooker ham recipes suggest a cook time that is much longer than need be. This recipe uses a spiral ham which is a pre-cooked. Be sure to check your package to make sure your ham is pre-cooked, the package will tell you what temperature the ham needs to reach. A pre-cooked ham should be cooked to a temperature of 140°F which will take 4-5 hours on low for an 8-10lb ham.
How Much Ham per Person
When buying a ham, I keep this in mind: The best rule of thumb for ham is to plan about 1/2 pound per person when picking a bone-in ham (it’s heavier) and 1/3 pound if boneless. This is just an estimate and if you are wanting to use leftovers in recipes like this family favorite ham casserole or a delicious broccoli and cauliflower au gratin with ham, then plan on more ham.
