Grilled Strawberry Shortcake
Grilled Strawberry Shortcake is an easy dessert to wow your guests with at any BBQ or cookout. Even great for a weeknight sweet treat, with or without a scoop of ice cream.
Strawberries are my most favorite fruit and I can’t get enough of them. When they are in season, I will buy tons and flash freeze them whole for use in smoothies, pies, and many other fruity recipes. Using the fresh strawberries in desserts like this Grilled Strawberry Shortcake or this strawberry mousse dessert cup are my two top favorite ways to eat the red fruit, that is, after just eating them one after another.
Being that it is the last day of #BBQWeek, I wanted to share this delicious version of strawberry shortcake along with the other yummy recipes from the #FestiveFoodies group. Be sure to check out all of the recipes this week, which will all appear at the end of my posts each day.
This week I will be sharing these recipes:
- Grilled Pineapple with Maple Syrup Glaze (Monday’s recipe)
- Deviled Egg Pasta Salad (Tuesday’s recipe)
- Slow Cooker BBQ Green Beans with Bacon (Wednesday’s recipe)
- Grilled Ham Steak with Honey Mustard (Thursday’s recipe)
- Glaze Grilled Strawberry Shortcake (that’s todays recipe)
This easy strawberry shortcake dessert has been made so many times over the years that it’s become a standard in our house. It’s so easy to make, I mean it’s really EASY. In fact, if you ever are in need of a last minute dessert to make this is the one! I used a couple of shortcuts with this recipe for that exact reason.
While you most definitely can make your own pound cake, I honestly don’t because the store-bought one is just perfect for us. So, that’s shortcut number one. Shortcut number two is to use already made whipped cream. Yes, it only takes a few minutes to make your own, but if you’re short on time buying it is perfectly acceptable. My last tip would be to use fresh strawberries in place of frozen. It makes the difference, in my opinion.
Ingredients
- pound cake
- strawberries
- whipped cream
Instructions
Start by slicing the leafy tops off of the strawberries and slicing them up. Place in bowl and add 2 packets of sugar substitute or regular sugar. Mix and set aside so that the strawberries can macerate for about 20 minutes.
You can grill the pound cake using either an outdoor grill, indoor grill, or even a grill pan on the stovetop. Preheat your grill to medium high.
While the grill is doing its thing, slice the pound cake into one inch slices. Butter both sides of the pound cake slices.
When grill is ready, place slices of cake on grill, Grill until golden brown grill marks appear on both sides of cake, flipping once. Doesn’t take long for this to happen.
To assemble: Place slices of grilled pound cake on a plate and top with a heaping spoonful of whipped cream, followed strawberries. Serve!

Grilling poundcake is so clever, and the perfect ending to a barbecue! Your strawberries are so lucious too.
We’ve been grilling pound cake for years too! A happy accident for us. This looks so good and our stores have delicious strawberries right now.
I love desserts you can make on the grill. This is ideal for summer.
